Dr. Mieke Verfaellie

Biography

Mieke Verfaellie is a Professor at Boston University's Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine in the Department of Psychiatry. Her research primarily targets the cognitive neural bases of human memory, particularly focusing on memory disorders. Verfaellie's expertise has been instrumental in understanding both intact and impaired memory functionalities. With an extensive career that includes a PhD in psychology from Université catholique de Louvain, she has undergone significant postdoctoral training that includes time at the VA Boston Healthcare System. Her research grants highlight her critical role in investigating memory impairments across various clinical populations, including individuals who have suffered cardiac arrest or traumatic brain injuries. A fellow of the American Psychological Association and the Association for Psychological Science, she actively contributes to several editorial boards and mentors graduate students in the Graduate Medical Sciences program at Boston University.
