Dr. Miguel Pineda

Biography

Miguel Pineda is a Lecturer in the School of Molecular Biosciences at the University of Glasgow. His research focuses on chronic inflammation within arthritic joints, with an emphasis on synovial fibroblasts that serve as critical regulators of the inflammatory microenvironment in diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Pineda's work in functional glycomics explores the roles of glycans and their binding proteins in cell-cell interactions and immune responses. He aims to uncover how the biological information contained in surface glycans influences the inflammatory responses of synovial fibroblasts in RA and seeks to provide insights into potential therapeutic approaches based on glycomic signatures.
