Biography

Miguel Ramalho-Santos is a professor in Molecular Genetics at the University of Toronto. His research focuses on understanding genome-environment interactions that shape mammalian development and reproduction. He has a particular interest in the role of pluripotent cells in the mammalian embryo that give rise to the various cell types found in the body. His recent work highlights the foundational aspects of genome organization and gene transcription in pluripotent cells, as well as how environmental perturbations can lead to long-term consequences. His laboratory employs advanced techniques in chromosome biology, CRISPR-Cas9 genome engineering, and various other approaches to explore developmental biology, epigenetics, gene regulation, and regenerative medicine.
