Biography

Mihai Azoitei obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Biochemistry and Computer Science from Middlebury College and a PhD in Biochemistry from the University of Washington. He worked in the lab of Dr. William Schief and completed his postdoctoral studies in the lab of Dr. Klaus Hahn at the Department of Pharmacology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He joined Duke University and the Duke Human Vaccine Institute as an assistant professor in 2018. His research focuses on manipulating proteins, the building blocks of life, to uncover fundamental biological processes and develop novel therapeutics. Azoitei's group aims to harness recent advances in protein engineering methods to develop vaccines against pathogens that seriously threaten human health.
