Biography

Mihailo R. Jovanovic is a professor in the Ming Hsieh Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering and the founding director of the Center for Systems and Control at the University of Southern California. He received his diploma and master's degrees in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Belgrade in Serbia between 1995 and 1998, and his Ph.D. from the University of California, Santa Barbara in 2004. Professor Jovanovic was a visiting researcher at the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm and has held academic positions at the University of Minnesota and Stanford University. His research focuses on large-scale distributed optimization, controller architecture design, and control of fluid flows. He has served as an Associate Editor for various prominent journals and has received numerous awards for his contributions to the field, including the CAREER Award from the National Science Foundation and George S. Axelby Outstanding Paper Award from the IEEE Control Systems Society. His work exemplifies strong interdisciplinary engagement, particularly in understanding and developing solutions for complex systems.
