Mihailo R. Jovanovic is a professor in the Ming Hsieh Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering and the founding director of the Center for Systems and Control at the University of Southern California. He received his Dipl. Ing. and M.S. degrees from the University of Belgrade, Serbia in 1995 and 1998, respectively, and his Ph.D. from the University of California, Santa Barbara in 2004. Jovanovic was also a visiting researcher at the Department of Mechanics, Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, Sweden. Prior to joining USC, he was a faculty member in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Minnesota from December 2004 until January 2017. His research interests include modeling, dynamics, and control of large-scale distributed systems, with a focus on large-scale distributed optimization, controller architecture design, and sparsity-promoting optimal control. He has received several prestigious awards including the National Science Foundation CAREER Award in 2007 and the Distinguished Alumnus Award from the Department of Mechanical Engineering at UC Santa Barbara in 2014.
