Dr. Mijke Slot

Biography

Mijke Slot is an Assistant Professor at the Erasmus School of History, Culture and Communication at Erasmus University Rotterdam. Her research expertise includes the impact of technology on user and producer relations, user engagement, serious games, and innovation journalism. Mijke has supported various initiatives, such as advising the Dutch Minister of Education, Culture and Science on addressing technological challenges in news media, and she has collaborated with stakeholders to research innovative practices in news consumption. She completed her Bachelor's in Arts Culture Studies and her Master's in Media Journalism at Erasmus University, graduating Cum Laude with a study on the performance of Dutch game developers. Mijke defended her dissertation in 2013, which focused on the changing relationship between media audiences and producers in the online realm. She has published extensively in international journals and has contributed to understanding how technology influences media consumption. In recognition of her contributions, she received the Young Researcher Award at a COST Conference in 2009 and has been awarded teaching prizes by the Erasmus University Rotterdam. Mijke has also developed and launched a MOOC on Serious Games in collaboration with her colleague.
