Professor Dr. Mika Lavaque Manty

Biography

Mika LaVaque-Manty is an Arthur F. Thurnau Associate Professor in the Department of Political Science at the University of Michigan. He specializes in political philosophy and is particularly focused on political thought from the seventeenth century to contemporary political theory. His research examines key questions around political action, agency, and explanation, with a prominent focus on the historical works of eighteenth-century continental liberals, especially Immanuel Kant. His current academic projects investigate the themes of autonomy and agency in educational institutions and their practices. LaVaque-Manty has significant experience teaching and engaging in philosophical discourse.
