Dr. Mikael Forsgren

Biography

Mikael Forsgren is an Adjunct Associate Professor at Linköping University, specializing in magnetic resonance physics and its application in medical research. His primary research focus encompasses MR-based body composition assessments linked to disease treatment, with a significant emphasis on metabolic liver diseases. Forsgren's work has established a vital connection between magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and chronic liver conditions, exploring alternatives to traditional diagnostic methods such as liver biopsies. He holds a PhD in Medical Sciences and an MSc in Engineering Biotechnology from Linköping University, where he has also been engaged in academic teaching and research since 2009. His doctoral thesis centered around innovative MR techniques aimed at quantifying liver function, aiming to enhance the understanding of chronic liver diseases. Besides his academic endeavors, Forsgren has worked in collaboration with industry, particularly at AMRA Medical AB, where he applied his expertise in MRI to advance research questions that intersect academia and clinical practices. Forsgren continues to contribute to the field through teaching and leading courses in physics methodology related to MRI, as well as actively participating in multidisciplinary research at Linköping University.
