Professor Mikaël Pittet leads the Translational Research Centre for Oncohaematology at the University of Geneva (UNIGE). He completed his PhD thesis in Immunology at the Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research and graduated from the University of Lausanne in 2001. Following his graduation, he pursued research at Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard Medical School, and the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston, United States, where he was named the Samana Cay MGH Research Scholar in 2015 and became the Director of the Center for Systems Biology in the Cancer Immunology Program in 2016. He was appointed Full Professor at Harvard Medical School in 2019 and joined the Faculty of Medicine at UNIGE in 2020 as a Full Professor in the Department of Pathology and Immunology, holding the ISREC Foundation Chair in Onco-Immunology. His research focuses on how the immune system controls cancer diseases and seeks to harness this knowledge for therapeutic purposes. He has identified key immune cells involved in cancer regulation, including cytotoxic T cells, regulatory T cells, macrophages, monocytes, neutrophils, and dendritic cells, which are considered potential drug targets for cancer immunotherapy. Professor Pittet has been recognized as a Highly Cited Researcher based on multiple papers ranking in the top 1% of citations over the last decade.
