Originally from Long Island, New York, Mike Cuttler moved to Western Australia in 2013 to undertake his PhD at the University of Western Australia (UWA), focusing on coastal morphodynamics of reef-fronted coasts. He completed his dissertation in 2017 and subsequently became a postdoctoral researcher at the Oceans Graduate School, UWA Oceans Institute. His research primarily investigates nearshore processes and coastal hazards, including flooding and erosion, with a special emphasis on complex coastal environments. Cuttler utilizes a variety of field instrumentation such as wave buoys, pressure sensors, and satellite imagery, in conjunction with numerical modeling methods. His collaborative efforts with UWA's Coastal Offshore Engineering Lab aim to improve understanding of shoreline dynamics and coastal evolution factors. He is currently seeking well-qualified PhD students to work within his research group, which focuses on the drivers of coastal processes during storm events and their implications on local ecosystems.
