Biography

Mike Dobbins is a city planner, urban designer, and architect, currently serving as Professor of Practice in the School of City and Regional Planning at Georgia Institute of Technology. He teaches courses focusing on urban design policy implementation, freehand drawing for planners, and studio courses. Dobbins emphasizes the integration of design and planning in developing policies, programming, and implementation strategies for urban spaces. His research interests include addressing the wealth divide, combating racism, and promoting environmental stewardship, aiming for a fair society through effective urban planning. From June 1996, Dobbins served as the Commissioner of Planning, Development, and Neighborhood Conservation in Atlanta, managing planning and design for the city, particularly during the Olympics. His previous experience includes leadership roles in urban design agencies in New York City, New Orleans, Birmingham, and UC Berkeley, along with teaching assignments at Tulane University, Columbia, and Birmingham Southern College. Dobbins is a Fellow of both the American Institute of Architects and the American Institute of Certified Planners.
