Biography

Mike Montgomery is a Research Scientist and the Director of the Wootton Center for Astrophysical Plasma Properties at the University of Texas at Austin. He earned his Ph.D. in Astronomy from the University of Texas at Austin in 1998, under the supervision of Dr. Don Winget, focusing on the evolutionary pulsation of crystallizing white dwarf stars. After completing postdoctoral positions at the Institute of Astronomy in Vienna and Cambridge, he returned to the University of Texas where he has been instrumental in developing the Freshman Research Initiative, which enables undergraduate students to engage in research early in their academic careers. His recent research addresses questions in laboratory astrophysics and he currently serves as the Deputy Director of the Wootton Center. He has authored numerous publications on topics ranging from cosmology to plasma and fusion physics, contributing significantly to the field of astrophysics.
