Biography

Mike Sailors is a critically acclaimed trumpeter, arranger, and educator, known for his extensive tours as a sideman across the globe. He has performed at prestigious events such as the Newport Jazz Festival, EFG London Jazz Festival, and the Tokyo Blue Note Jazz Festival, among others, representing the jazz community through various platforms. As a copyist and editor for notable ensembles such as the Jazz Lincoln Orchestra under Wynton Marsalis, Sailors has made significant contributions to the jazz world. He has also arranged pieces for the United States Army Field Band Jazz Ambassadors and Lady Gaga's PBS show. In addition to his performance career, Sailors is deeply committed to education, leading masterclasses and workshops across the United States, including participation in Jazz Lincoln Center’s “Let Freedom Swing” program. At the University of Texas at Austin, he directs the Jazz Ensemble and teaches courses in jazz improvisation and arranging, mentoring students pursuing careers in the music industry.
