Dr. Mike Tildesley

Biography

Mike Tildesley is a Professor at the University of Warwick and serves as the Director of the Mathematics for Real World Systems Centre for Doctoral Training. He has extensive experience in modelling infectious diseases, particularly in the agricultural sector, focusing on livestock diseases such as Foot-and-Mouth Disease (FMD) and Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI). Over the span of his career, he has advised government bodies, including the UK Government's Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs (DEFRA) and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), contributing significantly to strategies for controlling livestock diseases. He has a robust research background, having published over 90 papers in prominent scientific journals. His work has notably included the development of mathematical models for predicting the spread of infectious diseases and informing policy decisions during outbreaks, including COVID-19, where he provided critical insights as a member of the Scientific Pandemic Influenza Group on Modelling (SPI-M-O). Tildesley's research consistently operates at the interface of science and policy, aiming to bridge the gap between mathematical research and practical applications in disease control.
