Biography

Mike Ward is a Professor of Chemistry at the University of Warwick, having obtained his B.A. from the University of Cambridge in 1986 and a PhD from the same institution in 1989. He conducted post-doctoral research in Strasbourg with Jean-Pierre Sauvage before starting his independent academic career at the University of Bristol in 1990. After 13 years at Bristol, he moved to the University of Sheffield in 2003 for 14 years, before joining Warwick in 2017 as the Head of the Department of Chemistry. His research primarily focuses on coordination chemistry, particularly involving transition metal and lanthanide ions in multinuclear assemblies. His key research interests include self-assembly host-guest chemistry of hollow metal/ligand cage complexes and the photophysical properties of polynuclear complexes and supramolecular assemblies, with applications in imaging and sensing.
