Mikelle Nuwer is a Teaching Professor in the UW School of Oceanography, where she teaches over 600 students each year in the field of marine sciences. Her courses focus on the geologic history of the Pacific Northwest, the physics and chemistry of coastal waters, and the intricacies of marine food webs and ecology. She is a current member of the UW College of the Environment’s Teaching Support Team and serves as a lead coach for the Evidence-Based Teaching Program as well as a Teaching Technology Fellow. Nuwer holds both an M.S. and a Ph.D. in biological oceanography from the University of Washington, with her dissertation work concentrating on the spatial and temporal patterns of molecular genetic variation in a group of planktonic calanoid copepods.
