Biography

Professor Mikhail Belkin specializes in semiconductor technology with a focus on optoelectronic integrated photonics solutions in the mid-infrared and terahertz spectral regions. His research addresses the need for compact solid-state systems to replace bulky thermal sources and mechanical devices in current instrumentation, facilitating advancements in applications such as vibrational spectroscopy, chemical and biomedical imaging, sensing, and terahertz imaging. Professor Belkin earned his PhD in Physics from the University of California at Berkeley in 2004 and subsequently conducted postdoctoral research in the group of Professor Federico Capasso at Harvard University's School of Engineering and Applied Sciences. He serves as a faculty member in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the Technical University of Munich, where he holds the Chair of Semiconductor Technology. His research strives to harness new mid-infrared and terahertz photonics technologies for innovative applications.
