Mikhail Smigelski, a versatile bass-baritone, has earned acclaim on prestigious stages such as Carnegie Hall and the Berliner Philharmonie. Born in St. Petersburg, Russia, he has a diverse career that spans genres including opera, oratorio, early music, musical theatre, and contemporary music. He has performed with esteemed opera companies such as the Saint Petersburg Chamber Opera and Theater Aachen, showcasing a repertoire that includes major roles in both classical and contemporary operas. In addition to performing, Mikhail is an ardent advocate for contemporary classical music, participating in numerous festivals and premiering new works across the U.S. and beyond. He serves as Music Director for the Houston-based musical theatre company Opera Leggera and is the Artistic Director of the Russian Speakers’ Society in Austin. Mikhail also produces independent classical and experimental music through his label, Ladoga Records.
