Biography

Miki Wheeler is a Continuing Lecturer in East Asian Languages and Cultures at the University of California, Davis. She earned her Ph.D. from the University of California, Berkeley in 2008. Her research focuses on Heian and Kamakura court diaries, particularly the representation of men and women within these narratives. Wheeler examines the intersections of treatment, seasonal rites and ceremonies, and material culture, with a recent emphasis on the significant role of garments, including aspects of weaves, dyes, and layering schemes as expressed in Heian and Kamakura narratives.
