Biography

Mikkel Fugl Eskjær is an Associate Professor in the Department of Communication and Psychology at Aalborg University, Copenhagen campus. He holds a PhD in Film Studies from the University of Copenhagen. Eskjær's research mainly focuses on mediated communication within the more-than-human world, encompassing a range of topics including environmental communication, climate change journalism, media coverage of environmental conflicts, environmental justice, climate activism, resilience, sustainability, and representations of the ecological crisis in popular culture. His work is primarily approached from a media sociological perspective, employing both qualitative and quantitative methodologies, along with recent digital techniques such as automated content analysis, topic modeling, and sentiment analysis. Eskjær has co-authored books and co-edited anthologies and is a founding member of the International Environmental Communication Association (IECA). He is also the Chair of the Science Environment Section at ECREA for the term 2024-2026. His experience includes visiting scholar positions at various international institutions and he actively contributes to research aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
