Biography

Milan Svolik is the Elizabeth S. & Varick Stout Professor of Political Science at Yale University. His research and teaching focus on comparative politics, political economy, and formal political theory. Svolik has authored and co-authored numerous articles on topics such as politics in authoritarian regimes, democratization, and democratic backsliding. He is the author of the book 'Politics Authoritarian Rule' published by Cambridge University Press in 2012, for which he received an award from the Comparative Democratization Section of the American Political Science Association. Currently, Svolik is engaged in research projects examining democratic backsliding, support for democracy, and electoral manipulation. His latest book project studies how ordinary citizens may support political leaders who undermine democratic processes.
