Biography

Miles De Blasio is a Senior Research Fellow and Adjunct Research Fellow in Pharmacology at Monash University. He leads the Cardio-Metabolic Physiology Laboratory and co-leads the Heart Failure Pharmacology Laboratory within the Drug Discovery Biology theme at the Monash Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences. His academic journey began with a PhD completed at the University of Adelaide in 2004, primarily focusing on the endocrine and metabolic bases of diabetes, obesity, and fetal growth restriction. De Blasio gained valuable experience during four years in industry with the Australian Pork Cooperative Research Centre before moving to the University of Cambridge in the UK, where he undertook post-doctoral research related to fetal leptin and cardiac development. He returned to Australia in 2015, where he focused on diabetic cardiomyopathy, securing over $7 million in research funding and significantly contributing to the field with more than 68 published papers and a high citation index. His current research includes investigating therapeutic approaches using pharmacological agents and gene therapies targeting cardiac protection pathways related to diabetes and cardiomyopathy.
