Dr. Miles Harris

Biography

Miles Harris is a family nurse practitioner and assistant clinical professor at the Betty Irene Moore School of Nursing at the University of California, Davis. He identifies as trans nonbinary and plays a unique role in providing patient care, directing Gender-Affirming Care at UC Davis Health, and leading classroom instruction for nursing students. His research predominantly centers on the sexual and reproductive health needs of transgender and gender-nonbinary individuals, and he advocates for the integration of gender-affirming care into primary care settings for health care providers across the United States. Harris has previously worked as a family nurse practitioner in community clinics in Sacramento and New York, where he provided reproductive and gender-affirming health services. He earned his Master of Science in Family Nurse Practitioner Program from New York University College of Nursing, where he was recognized as the College’s Overall Distinguished Master’s Student in 2015. He also holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Pennsylvania and a Bachelor of Arts in Biology and Studio Art from Carleton College. His recent publications include articles in prominent medical journals, and he is a contributing author to the textbook 'Pharmacotherapeutics for Advanced Practice Nurse Prescribers,' which won the American Journal of Nursing Book of the Year award in 2021. Harris actively participates in professional organizations, serves as a mentor, and is a certified HIV specialist through the American Academy of HIV Medicine.
