Milo Shaffer is a Professor of Materials Chemistry at Imperial College London and co-Director of the London Centre for Nanotechnology from 2010 to 2020. He has extensive experience in the synthesis, modification, characterization, and application of carbon inorganic nanomaterials, particularly in nanocomposite hierarchical systems and structural electrochemical applications. His notable recent work involves new patented methods for the dispersion, surface functionalization, and characterization of carbon nanomaterials, as well as novel approaches for the synthesis of functionalized oxide nanoparticles in situ. Shaffer is actively involved in several large programs, including HiPerDuct and structural power projects. He currently leads the NextCOMP program grant, which is part of the Graphene Flagship initiative at Imperial. Additionally, he has worked as a materials technology consultant focusing on new technology development and exploitation, has filed thirty-five patents with several licensed commercially, and co-founded the spin-out company Solena Materials, which develops new protein-based fibers. Shaffer has published over 250 peer-reviewed papers with a total of 35,000 citations and has an h-index of 92. His accolades include the Royal Society of Chemistry Meldola Medal in 2005, the prestigious EPSRC Leadership Fellowship in 2008, and the RSC Corday-Morgan Prize in 2014. He has previously served on the RSC Materials Chemistry Division Council and is a member of the EPSRC Strategic Advisory Team for Engineering, as well as editorial boards for Nanocomposites and International Materials Reviews.
