Biography

Mimi White studies and teaches film, television, and media culture with an emphasis on critical-cultural theory, gender, and history. She is the author of "Tele-Advising: Therapeutic Discourse in American Television" and co-author of "Media Knowledge: Popular Culture, Pedagogy, Critical Citizenship." She is also a co-editor of "Questions Method Cultural Studies." Her research includes historical narrative film and television, American films from the 1970s and 1980s, and feminist video art, with a focus on how television series function. White's work has been published in numerous journals and edited collections including the European Journal of Cultural Studies and Cinema Journal. She has served as a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Pembroke Center, Brown University, and has held several fellowships throughout her career, including a Fulbright Fellowship in Finland. Her current research project is a book titled "Hallmark Extra-Ordinary Appeal Formulaic TV," examining the cultural implications of Hallmark programming.
