Biography

Mindi Thompson is a professor and registered health service psychologist who currently chairs the Department of Counseling Psychology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. With a strong research background, she has published over 45 peer-reviewed journal articles and book chapters utilizing qualitative, quantitative, and mixed-methods research approaches. Her research mainly focuses on vocational and educational development as well as mental health and psychotherapy. In addition to her faculty role, Thompson directs the Center for Research on College-Workforce Transitions at UW-Madison. Her work has received funding from prestigious organizations such as the National Science Foundation, Strada Education Network, and Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. Thompson has served as the academic director of faculty programs at the National Center for Faculty Development & Diversity and has been recognized as a fellow of the American Psychological Association’s Society of Counseling Psychology. She has received numerous accolades including the Excellence in Diversity Award from the UW-Madison School of Education, the Fritz Linn Kuder Early Career Scientist/Practitioner Award, and the Early Career Leadership Award from the APA’s Committee on Socioeconomic Status.
