Biography

Ming Li is an Associate Professor and Associate Chair for Facilities in the Department of Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology at the University of Michigan. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of Massachusetts-Amherst and a B.S. from Fudan University in Shanghai, China. His research focuses on lysosomes, essential organelles involved in digestion and recycling within cells. His work addresses how lysosomes are delivered via endomembrane trafficking and their role in autophagy. He studies the implications of lysosomal dysfunction, which contributes to approximately 70 lysosomal storage diseases and is linked to aging-related neurodegenerative disorders, muscular dystrophy, and cardiovascular diseases. Currently, he is investigating how lysosomes communicate with other organelles using various models, including budding yeast, human cancer cell lines, and vertebrate models.
