Professor Minghao Zheng has made significant contributions in understanding fundamental bone biology and translating research into industry commercialization. He studied medicine at Shantou University and Sun Yat-sen University of Medical Sciences in China, joining the University of Western Australia in 1989, where he received his PhD in 1993 and Doctor of Medicine in 2000. He is a fellow of the Royal College of Pathologists in the UK and the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia and is an associate editor for Stem Cell Research & Therapy. His career has centered on bone and joint research and regenerative medicine. He pioneered the development of collagen scaffolds and cell therapy to treat cartilage, tendon, and ligament injuries, becoming a global leader in restoring tendon and cartilage using patients' own stem cells. He developed the Matrix-induced Autologous Chondrocyte Implantation (MACI) protocol for cartilage repair and the Autologous Tenocyte Therapy (ATT) for tendon repair. His work on Giant Cell Tumor of bone is recognized in the World Health Organization's official classification of bone tumors. Professor Zheng has published over 250 papers and holds eight patents in Australia, the USA, Japan, Singapore, Europe, and China. He also serves as Co-Founder and Chief Scientific Officer of Orthocell Limited, a biomedical healthcare company.
