Biography

Minglin Ma is a Professor in the Department of Biological and Environmental Engineering at Cornell University. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from Tsinghua University, a Master of Science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), and completed his PhD in Chemical Engineering at MIT in 2008. Dr. Ma's research focuses on developing advanced biomaterials for agricultural and biomedical applications, with a particular emphasis on cell replacement therapies for type 1 diabetes. He has held positions as a Lead Scientist at General Electric Global Research Center and has worked in postdoctoral research in Dr. Robert Langer’s laboratories at the MIT Koch Institute before joining Cornell in 2013. Through his teaching and research, he introduces students to the various types of biomaterials, including polymers, hydrogels, and inorganic composites, emphasizing molecular-level understanding of their synthesis, structures, and properties. His work includes innovative applications of biomaterials, such as bio-inspired materials and food packaging, and has been involved in various case studies, including COVID vaccine developments.
