Biography

Mingshan Lu, Ph.D., is a Professor in the Department of Economics at the University of Calgary, where he has been a faculty member since 1997 after earning his MA and Ph.D. in economics from Boston University. He also serves as an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Community Health Sciences at the Cumming School of Medicine and is a member of the O'Brien Institute of Public Health. Dr. Lu leads the Health Economics Methods Hub for Alberta's Strategy Patient-Oriented Research (SPOR) Support Unit and is a Fellow at the Institute of Health Economics in Alberta. His research interests encompass healthcare financing and fund allocation, economic evaluation in healthcare, healthcare disparities for vulnerable populations, substance abuse, mental health, patient-centered care, and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). He has published extensively across various economics and health-related journals and has received numerous research awards and grants for his work. He is committed to enhancing patients' mental health and cognitive functions by integrating precision Chinese medicine with counseling psychology. Dr. Lu is currently pursuing an MSc in Counseling Psychology, focusing on academic stress and its implications for student performance and well-being.
