Biography

Mingyan Liu is the Alice L. Hunt Collegiate Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the University of Michigan, where she has been actively engaged in academia since August 2000. Dr. Liu specializes in optimal resource allocation, sequential decision theory, incentive design, and performance modeling analysis. Her recent research includes online learning and analyzing large-scale Internet measurement data, as well as designing incentive mechanisms for cybersecurity. In 2014, she co-founded QuadMetrics, Inc., which commercializes predictive data analytics for cyber risk quantification, contributing to a global enterprise cybersecurity ratings system, with the company being acquired by Fair Isaac Corporation in 2016. She has received multiple accolades for her contributions to engineering education and research, including the NSF CAREER Award in 2002 and the Distinguished University Innovator Award in 2018. Dr. Liu has also published a book titled “Embracing Risk — Cyber Insurance Incentive Mechanism Cybersecurity,” showcasing her expertise in the field.
