Mingzhe Wang serves as an Associate Professor of Clarinet at Michigan State University’s College of Music. He is a recipient of the Tennessee Arts Commission’s 2013 Individual Artist Fellowship award and is dedicated to music, focusing on classical repertoire. Wang gave the Chinese premiere of Elliott Carter’s 'Hiyoku' and has collaborated with some of the world’s leading composers. His performances include the Copland Clarinet Concerto with the Gateway Chamber Orchestra and appearances with prominent groups such as the American Classical Orchestra and Clarion Music Society Orchestra. As a chamber musician, Wang has worked alongside prominent young artists, with performances featured on China’s Central Television, New York’s WQXR, and various public radio stations across North America. Originally from Wuhan, China, he began studying the clarinet at age nine and gave his first public performance at age ten. Wang received his Doctor of Musical Arts degree from Yale University and has obtained a Master’s degree and an Artist Diploma. His major teachers include David Shifrin, Charles Neidich, Ayako Oshima, and Paul Green. Previously, Wang was an associate professor of clarinet at Austin Peay State University in Clarksville, Tennessee. He is also a founding member of the Gateway Chamber Orchestra and co-founder of Trio Séléné.
