Dr. Mingzhong Zhang

Biography

Mingzhong Zhang is an Associate Professor in the Department of Civil, Environmental and Geomatic Engineering at University College London. He received his PhD in Civil Engineering from Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands in 2013 and subsequently worked as a Postdoctoral Research Associate on an EPSRC-funded project at the University of Manchester. He joined UCL as a Lecturer in Civil Engineering Materials in 2015 and was promoted to Associate Professor in 2019. Dr. Zhang's research focuses on sustainable infrastructure materials, particularly regarding multiscale modelling and damage evolution in quasi-brittle materials. He has published one academic book, four book chapters, and over 140 peer-reviewed papers, with a significant h-index of 51, indicating his strong impact on the field. His work has appeared in top-ranked journals across Civil Engineering and Structural Engineering. Dr. Zhang has received several distinctions, including the Royal Society Kan Tong Po International Fellowship in 2024 and recognition as one of the World's Top 2% Scientists by Stanford University in 2020. He serves as an Associate Editor for journals focused on sustainable materials and actively participates in various professional communities and review boards.
