Dr. Minh Son Pham

Biography

Minh-Son Pham is an Associate Professor at Imperial College London in the Department of Materials. He leads a diverse research group focusing on high-performing materials and advanced manufacturing. Dr. Pham joined Imperial in December 2015 as a Research Fellow, where he established an independent research group and was promoted to Lecturer in 2018, and then to Associate Professor in 2021. He previously worked as a Research Associate at Carnegie Mellon University and as a Guest Researcher at the National Institute of Standards and Technology. He holds a Doctor of Science degree from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich, awarded with distinction and the ETH Medal for his outstanding doctoral thesis. Dr. Pham has received the TMS Young Innovator Award in Materials Science and Additive Manufacturing for his groundbreaking research published in leading journals like Nature Communications. He has delivered over 15 keynote lectures at international conferences and has supervised multiple PhD students, with several receiving thesis prizes. His research areas include additive manufacturing, material design, and the study of material and mechanical degradation of meta-materials. Dr. Pham maintains collaborations with industries in aerospace, energy, and medical devices, addressing issues of reliability and sustainability. He participates actively in reviewing scientific journals and funding bodies.
