Biography

Minh Dang Nguyen is an Associate Professor in the Department of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology at the Cumming School of Medicine, University of Calgary. He has been a faculty member since September 2005. Dr. Nguyen's research focuses on understanding the basic mechanisms governing brain aging and neurodegenerative disorders, with a particular interest in the neuronal cytoskeleton and its role in cellular signaling. His work emphasizes the impact of age as a primary risk factor for neurodegeneration, examining how mutations and alterations in the neuronal cytoskeleton can lead to premature aging and disorders like Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. Through a molecular and cell biology approach, he aims to investigate physiological functions of neuronal development and maturation as well as potential mechanisms for promoting repair in the aging brain.
