Biography

Mirasol Enríquez is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Radio-Television-Film at the Moody College of Communication, University of Texas at Austin. Her scholarship focuses on Latina filmmakers, media production culture, Chicana/o film, and representations of race and gender in media. She has published in journals such as Cinema & Media Studies and Feminist Media Histories, and is the editor of the collection Screening American Independent Film, part of the Routledge Screening Cinema series. Currently, she is working on a book project centered on U.S.-based Latina filmmakers, exploring the challenges they face in an industry that often sidelines them. Enríquez is also known for her dedication to community building within the film arts, having held prominent positions such as Director of the Latino Media Arts Studies Program at Moody College from 2020 to 2023 and involvement with the Community Media program at the Austin Film Society from 2015 to 2017. She has contributed to education programs and community media initiatives such as those at Austin Public, a media center that operates under the Austin Film Society. In addition, she has served as a guest curator for the Cine Las Americas International Film Festival. Enríquez is a sixth-generation Tejana and has been a leader in her community, having moved to Austin with her family in 2015. She is also a faculty affiliate in the Department of Mexican American and Latina/o Studies and the Center for Women's and Gender Studies at UT.
