Dr. Miri Forbes

Biography

Miri Forbes is an Associate Professor at Macquarie University, specializing in psychopathology. She completed her PhD in Psychology in 2014, studying the latent variable approach to understanding the relationships between sexual dysfunctions and anxiety disorders. Her postdoctoral fellowships include positions at the University of Minnesota and the Centre for Emotional Health. In 2018, she began her Research Fellowship at Macquarie University and received an NHMRC Investigator Grant in 2021. Miri's research focuses on improving the understanding of the empirical structure of psychopathology, particularly how specific patterns of symptoms in mental disorders tend to co-occur. For example, she investigates how individuals with depression are likely to experience anxiety and how those with gambling compulsions may also struggle with substance addiction. Her research aims to identify patterns of co-occurrence of symptoms throughout an individual's lifespan. She has been actively engaged in academia as an Associate Editor for the Journal of Psychopathology Clinical Science and has been involved in numerous editorial boards, contributing significantly to the field of psychology and mental health.
