Biography

Miriam Gamble is a Senior Lecturer in Creative Writing at the University of Edinburgh. Originally from Belfast, she relocated to Scotland in 2010 and joined the department of creative writing as a lecturer in 2012. Her work encompasses various forms of creative writing, with a specific emphasis on poetry. Gamble is the author of several poetry collections, including 'Squirrels Dead' (2010), which won the Somerset Maugham Award in 2011, 'Pirate Music' (2014), and 'Planet' (2019), which was awarded the 2020 Pigott Poetry Prize. Her most recent publication is 'Acts of Vigilance' (The Lifeboat, 2024), a collection of lyric and personal essays. She has taught literature and creative writing at various levels and has supervised numerous PhD students in creative writing, focusing on poetry and creative non-fiction. Gamble’s research interests include modern and contemporary poetry, as well as creative non-fiction. She has contributed essays on Northern Irish poetry to various publications, including the 'Oxford Handbook of Modern Irish Poetry' (OUP, 2012) and the 'Irish Studies Review'.
