Dr. Miriam Klein Flugge

Biography

Miriam Klein-Flugge is a cognitive neuroscientist and Associate Professor at the University of Oxford, specializing in decision-making, ultrasound neuromodulation, and mental health research. She is a Principal Investigator leading the Motivation, Decision Neurostimulation Group (Modes Lab), where she investigates how the brain flexibly adjusts decisions based on complex internal and external circumstances. Her work involves brain imaging techniques, such as fMRI, MEG, and EEG, and causal stimulation methods like TMS and tDCS, alongside computational modeling of behavioral and cognitive tasks. Klein-Flugge holds a PhD in Cognitive Neuroscience from University College London, where she was supervised by Sven Bestmann. Postdoctoral research included a Henry Wellcome Fellowship in Matthew Rushworth's lab in Oxford. Her research also focuses on the role of subcortical brain regions in decision-making flexibility and how these processes are affected by mental illness. Klein-Flugge actively participates in public outreach, particularly in engaging young people with brain science.
