Miriam Moffatt is a Professor of Respiratory Genetics at the National Heart & Lung Institute, Imperial College London. She earned her BSc Honours Degree in Microbiology from the University of Reading in 1988 and obtained her D.Phil. on the Genetics of Asthma from the University of Oxford in 1994. She has held roles as a Research Lecturer and Reader in Genetics, and in 2005, she joined the National Heart & Lung Institute, becoming a Professor in 2008. She has co-lead significant studies such as the GABRIEL GWAS, which involved 26,000 individuals across 17 countries, identifying key genetic variants associated with asthma. Her work has contributed to a deeper understanding of the microbiome's role in respiratory diseases and has implications for novel asthma therapies. Moffatt has received numerous awards, including the Wellcome Trust Senior Investigator Award and the Imperial College President’s Medal for Outstanding Contribution to Research Supervision Excellence. She is dedicated to mentoring early-career scientists and has been involved in numerous initiatives to support research and collaboration in her field.
