Biography

Miriam Sturkenboom is a Full Professor and the head of the Department of Data Science and Biostatistics in the Julius Center at the University Medical Center Utrecht in the Netherlands. She obtained her PhD from the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics in Groningen, graduating cum laude, and holds a pharmacy degree as well as a Master's in Epidemiology from Harvard School of Public Health. Sturkenboom has previously served as the past president of the International Society for Pharmacoepidemiology. She worked as an expert for the European Medicines Agency and the US Food and Drug Administration and was a professor in the Observational Data Analysis department of Medical Informatics at Erasmus University until 2022. In 2022, she became a professor focusing on Real World Evidence at the University of Utrecht. Her research interests primarily revolve around the transformation of real-world data into real-world evidence regarding drug use and effectiveness.
