Biography

Mirjam Gollmitzer is an Associate Professor at the Department of Communication at Université de Montréal. She employs critical approaches to study media and journalism within specific political-economic contexts. Her research projects examine professional identities among part-time journalists, the precariousness faced by journalism interns, and the care practices of freelance journalists during the global pandemic, as well as the role of journalism cooperatives and alternative media organizations. Gollmitzer teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in media studies, cultural industries, and journalism in the context of neoliberalism, and supervises graduate students engaged in related research. She co-founded and co-directs the journalism research lab (Atelier -30-) at Université de Montréal. Previously, Gollmitzer worked as a journalist in various media organizations across Germany, completing eight internships and serving as a reporter and news editor. She has co-authored research reports on government policies affecting cultural workers for the Canadian Conference of Arts (CCA).
