Biography

Mirka Janeckova is a Teaching Fellow in Jewellery and Silversmithing, specializing in lost wax casting techniques using porcelain and glass in her jewellery creations. Her work is rooted in interdisciplinary research, spanning the fields of jewellery, metal, glass, and ceramics. In 2019, she published a book titled 'Designing Making Glass Jewellery.' Mirka trained in Jewellery and Silversmithing at the Glasgow School of Art (BA Hons) and earned a Master's degree with Distinction from the Royal College of Art, London. She has exhibited her work extensively both in the UK and internationally, including in Germany, the USA, Canada, Italy, the Czech Republic, China, Taiwan, and Norway. Her residencies include Cove Park and Hospital Fields Art at Wolverhampton University. Additionally, she received the Innovative New Collection Editor’s Choice Award at IJL in London. Mirka teaches various traditional and digital jewellery techniques and contributes to multidisciplinary courses outside the Jewellery & Silversmithing department. Her research focuses on the connections between glass and metals, which began during her final year at the Royal College of Art, in collaboration with Swarovski. She continues to explore glass techniques through a Professional Development Award from the Association for Contemporary Jewellery. Her notable research has been published in journals, with findings documented in the 'Findings' publication, Issue 64, 2017, along with her own work entitled 'Glass in the Czech Republic.' One of her major works, 'The White Collection,' has been awarded and widely exhibited worldwide.
