He holds a B.A. in American Studies from Baku State University, an M.A. in East European Studies from the University of Bologna, and an M.A. in Nationalism Studies from Central European University. Mirkamran has instructed undergraduate courses in Political Theory and Modern World History at ADA University in Baku, Azerbaijan, during the academic years 2021-2022. He has collaborated with NGOs on peace-building and conflict resolution initiatives in Azerbaijan in recent years. His research interests lie in the fields of nation-building, national identity, and minority identities, particularly in the context of Azerbaijan, which he critically examines in relation to the nation(alizing) discourses and policies of the Azerbaijani government following the country’s independence. Mirkamran has conducted semi-structured interviews with opposition politicians, civil society activists, and ethnic minority members to evaluate the reciprocity between state narratives and societal responses. He seeks to elucidate the factors that shape the nationalization and homogenization of Azerbaijani society in the post-Soviet period, particularly concerning ethnic minorities. Furthermore, he aims to advance the understanding of nation(alizing)-state concepts, national minorities, and external national homelands through ethnographic research.
