Biography

Mirko Musa is a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Hydraulic Engineering at the Institute of Civil Engineering of École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL). He directs the STREEM Lab (Sustainable River Engineering, Energy, Morphodynamics), which is dedicated to integrating laboratory experiments, data analysis, and analytical modeling to advance water power technologies while ensuring environmental sustainability. His expertise spans various areas including hydraulic engineering, experimental research, sediment transport, morphodynamics, river mechanics, hydropower, hydrokinetic energy, and renewable energy. Mirko received his Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees in Environmental Engineering from the University of Trento, Italy. He earned his Ph.D. in Civil, Environmental, and Geo-Engineering from the University of Minnesota, where his dissertation, which examined the effects of operating turbines on local erodible bathymetry and river morphodynamics, was recognized with the 2020 Dissertation Award in Physical Sciences and Engineering. Mirko teaches courses related to hydraulic engineering and their crucial role in managing water resources and renewable energy.
