Biography

Misha N. Ailsworth is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychology at Cornell University. She holds a Ph.D. in Community Research and Action from Vanderbilt University. Ailsworth previously completed her B.S. in Human Development at Cornell, where she also participated as a Ronald E. McNair Post-Baccalaureate Achievement Scholar. Her research focuses on the impact of families, communities, and schools on the mental health and wellness of Black girls, utilizing a cultural-assets perspective. Ailsworth is passionate about centering youth voices in the research process and employs methodological approaches such as photovoice and youth participatory action research. She investigates key questions regarding protective processes that buffer the effects of racial discrimination on mental health, as well as how social contexts influence the mental wellness of Black adolescent girls during their transition from middle childhood to adolescence. Ailsworth teaches courses including Introduction to Community Psychology and Black Girlhood Studies: Re-Memory, Representation, Reimagination.
