Dr. Mitch Mitch

Biography

Mitch is a Clinical Law Professor and the Director of the Neighborhood Law Clinic at the University of Wisconsin Law School. He leads the Economic Justice Institute, which encompasses multiple clinics including the Consumer Law Clinic, Eviction Defense Clinic, Family Court Clinic, Family Legal Aid Support Clinic, Immigrant Justice Clinic, and Restraining Order Survivor Advocacy Clinic. Mitch teaches and supervises students in the Neighborhood Law Clinic (NLC), which has a dual mission focused on education and service. The educational goal aims to provide a significant learning experience where students take responsibility for clients' cases, enhancing their lawyering skills and critical thinking regarding the role of law in promoting social justice. The service mission is dedicated to providing quality legal representation and advocacy for community members. Mitch is committed to increasing access to justice and co-founded Community Justice Inc., a nonprofit firm that offers direct legal services to low-income individuals within areas such as housing law, employment law, and government benefits. He has a strong background in experiential learning environments where students engage in various phases of litigation and the research of improved legal service delivery methods. Mitch has also served on various boards, including the Wisconsin Trust Account Foundation and the Wisconsin Access to Justice Commission, and chaired the Public Interest Law Section of the Wisconsin State Bar.
