Dr. Mitesh Patel

Biography

Mitesh Patel is a professor in the Department of Physics at Imperial College London, with a focus on research related to the LHCb experiment at CERN's Large Hadron Collider. He works within an international collaboration of approximately 1200 physicists from around 74 institutes, designed to study the decays of B mesons. In addition to leading a group of academics, postdoctoral staff, and PhD students, he contributes to a wide range of activities related to the LHCb experiment. Patel has served on the LHCb collaboration board, providing oversight and management input, as well as on the editorial board overseeing collaborations and publications. His research interests include investigating rare decay modes to probe the physics of the Standard Model and addressing anomalies in particle physics measurements. He has played a crucial role in measurements that highlight tensions in Standard Model predictions, particularly concerning B-meson decays. His recent contributions include pioneering measurements of the branching fractions of certain decays and the observation of new decay modes. Patel's ongoing work is essential for clarifying the understanding of the Standard Model and exploring potential new physics models, such as the implications of observed anomalies in B-meson decays.
