Biography

Dr. Mitul Luhar joined the Department of Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering at the University of Southern California as an Assistant Professor in January 2015 and was appointed as the inaugural holder of the Henry Salvatori Early Career Chair in 2020, subsequently promoted to Associate Professor in 2021. Prior to joining USC, Dr. Luhar was a Postdoctoral Scholar at the Graduate Aerospace Laboratories of California Institute of Technology. He earned his Ph.D. in Civil and Environmental Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 2012 and holds both a Bachelor's Degree and a Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Cambridge, completed in 2007. Dr. Luhar's core research expertise lies in fluid dynamics, which includes research on aerodynamic and hydrodynamic design, coastal protection, river restoration, and environmental science, utilizing a combination of laboratory experiments and modeling techniques.
